A special thank you to all who have contributed to this ongoing project. Many have been helping constantly throughout the years, while others have stepped up in a big way this year.

I keep reading about "metal work."  WHAT IS THAT??

Good question! The trim that surrounds the buildings, mainly around the roof and around the windows are all metal. The metal work is an important aspect of the cathedral décor which is what makes it a classic Louis Sullivan design.

Over the past several decades, this metal has been completely rusted out, or has even gone missing. In cases where the metal work cannot be restored, replicated ornamentation is being installed. This method has been approved by the Landmarks commission of the City of Chicago to preserve the integrity of Sullivan's trademark work.
