I keep reading about "metal work." WHAT IS THAT??
Good question! The trim that surrounds the buildings, mainly around the roof and around the windows are all metal. The metal work is an important aspect of the cathedral décor which is what makes it a classic Louis Sullivan design.
Over the past several decades, this metal has been completely rusted out, or has even gone missing. In cases where the metal work cannot be restored, replicated ornamentation is being installed. This method has been approved by the Landmarks commission of the City of Chicago to preserve the integrity of Sullivan's trademark work.

BIG NEWS FOR APRIL
- Weather delays - Metal work pushed back to mid May
- We raised over $35K in only 10 months
WHAT DOES IT MEAN - This means May will be a busy month for the ornate metal work around the cathedral. Once this project is started, the metal crew will not leave until it is completed.
The $35K is the original estimated cost of the paint for our cathedral. We have reached a major milestone and this now allows us to focus on raising additional funds for the stucco.
