St. Tikhon's Seminary Mission Choir
St. Tikhon's Mission Choir Visits Holy Trinity Cathedral, March 17-18, 2018

[CHICAGO] Faculty and seminarians from St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA were at Holy Trinity Cathedral the weekend of March 17 & 18.  The Seminary's Mission Choir, led by Director of Music, Benedict Sheehan, sang the responses during Vigil on Saturday evening and during Divine Liturgy on Sunday.  V Rev Archpriest David Fox gave a wonderful sermon about St. John Climacus, who was commemorated that day.  It was a wonderful addition to the prayerful atmosphere at this mid-point of Great Lent.

Following the Liturgy, those in attendance had an opportunity to enjoy fellowship with the seminarians and to hear about the students' journey to the faith and to study at St. Tikhon's.  Books and CDs from the seminary's book store were also available for purchase.

Today, there are more seminarians who are married with children and answer the calling to serve the Lord.  These families experience many financial hardships as they pursue their studies and still provide for their families.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy, a collection was taken to support the seminarians and following the coffee hour a bequest from the estate of Julia Sobarnia, a long-time choir member at Holy Trinity who fell asleep in the Lord in April of 2017, was presented to Archpriest Steven Voytovich, Dean and Chief Operating Officer, Associate Professor of Pastoral Arts and Praxis at St. Tikhon's Seminary.

Our thanks go to the families who were able to provide accomodations for our guests and of course to the seminarians for elevating our prayer with their beautiful singing.
