MONDAY, OCTOBER 31 Hieromartyr Archpriest John Kochurov. Epistle: (99) Romans 8:29-39 (Hieromartyr) Gospel: (67) Luke 12:32-40 (Hieromartyr) NOTE: The service is here provided as a Vigil-rank commemoration. READER AND CHOIR CUES HOURS At All Hours: Glory... Troparion, Hieromartyr Now and ever... Theotokion from the Horologion Kontakion, Hieromartyr DIVINE LITURGY OF ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM BEATITUDES TROPARIA on 8, Tone 5: All Hieromartyr (4 from Ode III; 4 from Ode VI). In Thy kingdom remember us, O Lord, * when Thou comest in Thy kingdom. Blessed are the poor in spirit, * for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, * for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, * for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, * for they shall be filled. 8. Blessed are the merciful, * for they shall obtain mercy. Now let the land of Ryazan' be glad; for therein the holy John sprang forth from a pious root, to put forth the fruits of confession and martyrdom. 7. Blessed are the pure in heart, * for they shall see God. [repeat] Now let the land of Ryazan' be glad... 6. Blessed are the peacemakers, * for they shall be called the sons of God. All of Russia rejoices exceedingly in thy sacred memory, O hieromartyr, rendered steadfast in the Faith by the cross thou didst bear. 5. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, * for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Many are they who in the heavens form the choir of new martyrs and confessors, whose splendid chorus thou didst boldly lead, O Saint of God. 4. Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, * and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. As a faithful servant of Christ thy Master thou didst not bury in barren ground the talents He entrusted to thee, but didst invest and increase them to His great glory. 3. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, * for great is your reward in heaven. Caught in the midst of the raging storm of adverse passions, O father John, thou wast slain by the ungodly, who with hatred and derision silenced thy prayers for peace. 2. Glory to the Father, * and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Evildoers and malefactors raised a tumult of soul-destroying violence, O saint of God, and they would not follow thee who didst seek to lead them up out of corruption. 1. Now and ever, * and unto ages of ages. Amen. Soul-destroying tempests assail us, O Mother of our eternal Helmsman, and threaten to cast us down into the depths of the sea of corruption; but beg Him to save us. TROPARIA & KONTAKIA [Troparion, Church (if of the Lord or Theotokos)] Troparion, Hieromartyr, Tone 1: Aflame with love for God / thou gavest thy life as a martyr for Christ and neighbor, / and so didst receive a crown of righteousness from Him. / Hieromartyr John, entreat the most merciful God / to preserve His holy Church in peace // and to save our souls! Glory... Kontakion, Hieromartyr, Tone 3: Now the holy Hieromartyr is glorified, / for he took up his cross and followed Christ. / In so doing, he gave us a model of true discipleship. / Therefore, let us cry aloud to him: // Rejoice, O Father John, the glory of priests! Now and ever... [Kontakion, Church (if of the Lord or Theotokos). If not, then:] Kontakion, Theotokos, Tone 6: Steadfast protectress of Christians, / constant advocate before the Creator; / despise not the cry of us sinners, / but in thy goodness come speedily to help us who call on thee in faith. / Hasten to hear our petition and to intercede for us, O Theotokos, // for thou dost ever protect those who honor thee! [(99) Romans 8:28-39] Brethren: We know that everything works for good with those who love God, who are called according to His purpose. * For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, in order that He might be the first-born among many brethren. * And those whom He predestined He also called; and those whom He called He also justified; and those whom He justified He also glorified. * What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us? * He Who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, shall He not also give us all things with Him? * Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God Who justifies; * who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, Who died, yes, Who was raised from the dead, Who is at the right hand of God, Who indeed intercedes for us. * Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? * As it is written, "For Thy sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." * No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us. * For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, * nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, shall be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Priest: Peace be unto thee, Reader. Reader: And to thy spirit. ALLELUIA Deacon: Wisdom! Reader: In the 2nd Tone: AL-LE-LU-IA! Choir: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! GOSPEL [(67) Luke 12:32-40] The Lord said: "Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. * Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. * For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. * Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning, * and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to Him at once when He comes and knocks. * Blessed are those servants whom the Master finds awake when He comes; truly, I say to you, He shall gird Himself and have them sit at table, and He will come and serve them. * If He comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants! * But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have left his house to be broken into. * You also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour." COMMUNION VERSE The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance; he shall not fear evil tidings. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
