Holiday Cookie Walk to Fund Landmark Restoration
Holy Trinity Orthodox Cathedral will hold its annual Holiday Cookie Walk the second weekend in December. A purchase of holiday cookies and pet treats, homemade by parishioners, not only helps with gift-giving or entertaining during the holidays but it will benefit the restoration of the historic 106 year old cathedral as well.
The sale, sponsored by the Saints Martha and Mary Sisterhood altar society, will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, December 13, 2009 from noon to 4 p.m. in the social hall adjacent to the cathedral at 1121 N. Leavitt Street in Chicago’s historic Ukrainian Village/Wicker Park neighborhood. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to help restore the bell tower of this last remaining Louis Sullivan-designed church. Holy Trinity is a Chicago Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic places.
Visitors will walk along tables and hand-select their cookies and treats, which are then weighed and sold by the pound. The Sisterhood will also hold a raffle for some holiday goodies and sell copies of their latest cookbook, Illumined by the Feast, featuring over 285 recipes compiled from members and friends of the parish.
